Chemonics International, an international development consulting organization that has been operating since 1975 in more than 150 countries around the world, seeks an experienced Malaria Diagnostic/Laboratory Advisor for USAID’s anticipated activity in Cameroon through the U.S. President’s Malaria Initiative (PMI). This activity aims to advance the goals of PMI Cameroon and the Cameroon National Malaria Control Program (NMCP), which are to reduce deaths, reduce disease and reduce transmission to accelerate malaria elimination in Cameroon.
Chemonics is looking for a potential Malaria Diagnostics/Laboratory Advisor who will provide technical and program oversight for malaria diagnostics activities. Experience in Cameroon is required and proficiency in English and French is highly desired for this position. Responsibilities include:
Provide technical leadership, assess, and address gaps and ensure high-quality malaria diagnostic services.
Provide technical assistance for malaria diagnostics and quality assurance to the NMCP, national and regional laboratories
Participate in the development and/or revision or updating of national laboratory policies and guidelines, manuals and bench aids for malaria diagnostics.
Build capacity of facility-based health care providers through structured training, mentorship and supportive supervision.
Ensure PMI sites participate in malaria related external quality assurance
Participate in annual work planning and contribute to preparation of technical donor reports
Maintaining excellent working relationships with in-country stakeholders.
Qualifications for Malaria Diagnostic/Laboratory Advisor:
Degree in medical laboratory sciences or related field.
Candidate must be a citizen of Cameroon with work experience in the country
At least 8 years of experience in medical laboratory service delivery, including at least five years of malaria diagnosis experience
Demonstrated ability to work with multiple partners on collaborative projects.
Experience with USAID and/or other donors preferred
Demonstrated leadership, versatility, and integrity
Fluency in English and French desired
Willingness to travel extensively in Cameroon.
