Cambridge ESOL Speaking Examiners, Cameroon

Role Purpose

British Council Cameroon is looking for qualified individuals to join its team of ESOL Speaking Examiners.

Minimal Professional Requirements and Duties for Cambridge ESOL Speaking Examiners:

Oral Examiner’s Duties

To act as an interlocutor and/or assessor over examination periods

To observe the Instructions for Oral Examiners and to follow Oral Examiners Team Leader’s guidelines

To undertake a training course (4 hours for each level) and to attend yearly refresher sessions (1 to 2

hours for each level per annum)

To ensure security of examination materials.

Be familiar with all relevant, instructions and requirements relating to the specific examination

Be smartly dressed

Be courteous and encouraging in manner throughout the test

Be punctual and adhere to local test times

Maintain confidentiality of all test materials before, during and after the test

Adhere at all times to the examination board’s standards

Have the ability to interact appropriately with the candidates

Be familiar with the assessment scales for each relevant exam

Have the ability to assess appropriately and according to examination board guidelines

Be familiar with the test formats and procedures • Understand the role of Interlocutor and Assessor

Adhere to the frame/rubrics while delivering them as naturally as possible • Be familiar with the current

test materials

Handle the test materials efficiently

Keep to the format and timing of each exam

Manage the test smoothly, ensuring that candidates are given equal opportunity to speak

Note down assessments discreetly during the test

Complete all relevant sections of the candidates’ marks sheets

The oral examiner must not withdraw from examining assignments without adequate notice Read books, magazines, newspapers during the examination.

Not comment on candidates’ performance during or after the exam.

Role specific knowledge and experience:

Education to first-degree level or equivalent

A recognized language teaching qualification

Proof of substantial, relevant, recent teaching experience ideally equivalent to at least 1800 hours.

Essential requirements:

Education to first-degree level or equivalent

At least 3 years relevant, recent, full-time English language teaching experience or 1,800 teaching hours.

Over 25 years old and below the national retirement age

Proof of English Language proficiency: Have clear diction

Have certification of a level of English at least two levels higher than the examination level that is being

examined.

Further Information

Remuneration: 2,125 CFA

Contract Type – Temporary

Location – Cameroon

Language requirements: Strong written and oral English communication skills.

Role holders must have existing rights to live and work in the country the role is based.
