Ubongo reaches millions of families across Africa through accessible technologies like TV, radio and mobile phones. Our show’s Ubongo Kids and Akili and Me currently air in 31 countries across Africa, in Swahili, English, French, and Kinyarwanda. We are currently adapting the shows to even more languages including Kikuyu, French, Yoruba, Hausa, and Chichewa. Job Position: We are looking for a French Content Reviewer.  Working at Ubongo won’t be easy, but it will challenge and excite you with lots of responsibilities, plenty of fun, and give you the opportunity to impact the lives of millions of kids every day.

We’re looking for a dynamic, creative and flexible French Content Reviewer to support our Adaptation department with good quality translation reviews in French for our content. You’ll work closely with our ADAPTATION MANAGER and Francophone Africa Adaptation Consultant to rapidly boost production, ease the workflow in adaptation of content for Francophone Africa and across the organisation as  a whole.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

ADAPTATION

Main Activities:

Review of translated texts and songs from English to French for all of Ubongo’s  content as well as any relevant metadata content.

Review of audio and/or video files adapted into French provided by the dubbing partner.

Ensure correct and accurate translation of scripts, metadata and any other content as needed into French.

Maintain the standard of Ubongo scripts for both dialogue and songs: energetic, rhythmic, emote, and professional.

Review translations with an “edutainment – mindset”.

Review existing and future scripts for the French-language production of Ubongo Kids, Akili and Me and other productions of the organisation.

Ensure that any changes made on the translated script matches with the final script used during the recording session.

Participate in translation review processes as per the timelines and platforms of review set out by the Adaptation Manager and Francophone Africa Adaptation Consultant and the dubbing partner.

Update google drive and physical hard drives (where available) with reviewed content in French that has been dubbed and adapted .

Liaise with Adaptation Manager, Adaptation Sound Engineer and Francophone Africa Adaptation Consultant to ensure smooth processes for content delivery.

Maintain efficient communications and progress tracking systems with Ubongo.

REQUIREMENTS:KNOWLEDGE, EXPERIENCE and QUALIFICATIONSESSENTIALS:

A degree or qualification in Education, Early Childhood, Translation Studies or similar field.

Fluent in both English and French (knowledge of different Francophone African French dialects is IMPORTANT).

Proven experience in translation and/or language education.

Experience teaching pre-school and primary school children, or working with children in education is an added advantage!

Ability to learn new software as needed.

Experience with G-suite and Google Drive and/or other online file storage systems.

Creative, organised, flexible in project management, and able to work with minimal supervision.

Self-motivated and possess a high level of responsibility to complete tasks in a timely manner.

Ability to work remotely

Excellent attention to detail

English to French translation experience

Excellent understanding of Francophone African Nursery and Primary School Curricula implementation

Have a can-do attitude and readiness to learn on the job

Always looking forward to learning new skills as well as sharing their knowledge with others.

Excellent communication skills with strong verbal and written communication skills.
