How will you fight a Covid-19 Pandemic?

The COVID-19 pandemic has posed new challenges to already strained health systems around the world. As part of the UNITAID COVID-19 project, EGPAF will work with the national teams of the COVID-19 technical working group to accelerate end-to-end access to new solutions to respond to the COVID-19 pandemic through approaches to improved testing, isolation, care, and treatment tailored to the needs of low- and middle-income countries (LMICs) such as Cameroon. EGPAF Cameroon wishes to recruit six Associate Clinical Research Officers who will work as research nurses in the various health facilities participating in the evaluation protocol of the COVID Catalytic Action (CCA) project which will be implemented in the Littoral, Centre, and West regions. This twelve-month Catalytic project will help reduce death and serious illness from COVID-19; identity and further treat/isolate to reduce transmission of COVID infection and improve pandemic preparedness and early detection of outbreaks.

No two days are alike at EGPAF, but what can you expect as a Title?

The Associate Clinical Research Officer (Study Nurse) will be stationed in one of the health facilities participating in the Evaluation and Research Protocol integrated into the CCA project. Under the supervision of the Senior Technical Research Officer and the Technical Research Officer of the study, he/she will work with the COVID-19 focal point of the hospital and the community health workers (CHWs) to implement the research activities in accordance with protocol and procedures. He/she will be primarily responsible for the implementation and daily monitoring of the study in the health facility, including but not limited to, registration and monitoring of participants, data collection respecting the ethical rules and confidentiality, and respect for study procedures. He/she will also help to ensure the protection of the health, safety, and well-being of trial participants in accordance with the protocol. He/she will report on the implementation of the study to the Technical Officer of the study, the Data Manager, the Senior Technical Research Officer, and the in-country Principal Investigator of the study.

Responsibilities:

Identify and enroll eligible participants into the study.

Obtain and accurately document informed consent from each participant.

Abstract information in different sources documents, track and obtain further information for incomplete documents as per the Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs).

Enter participant data on a daily basis into the electronic database.

Track and report immediately to any event of interest occurring during the study implementation, especially adverse events affecting study participants.

Ensures organization and storage of research documents.

Verify data by comparing it to source documents and update existing data when requested.

Ensure the secured storage of data collection tools and participant records.

Maintain a good relationship with the facility staff and other staff involved in the study.

Maintain good communication with the hospital staff.

Ensure quality and timely completion of the trial activities, including problem identification and problem-solving.

Any other duties as assigned by the supervisor.

To be successful, you will have:

Registered nurse with a Degree or Diploma in General Nursing.

An additional Diploma in Public health or a relevant field will be appreciated.

At least 2 years of recent clinical nursing experience in a health facility.

Experience in clinical or operational research activity will be highly appreciated.

Basic Knowledge of Good Clinical Practices, ICH Guidelines, and US federal regulations for the protection of human subjects’ participation in research.

A very good mastery of computer software applications such as Microsoft Office suite is mandatory.

Perfect professional proficiency in English or French (a bilingual profile is an advantage).

Must have a professional demeanor and strong communication skills with the public as well as physicians and other collaborators.

Good interpersonal, oral, and written communication skills.

Ability to work independently as well as in a team environment and strong ability to proactively identify and solve problems.

Comfortable working after hours and on weekends.

Living in the locality of the study facility will be an advantage.

Skills knowledge and abilities

Other skills required:

  • Strong management skills and ability to implement research protocols,
  • Ability to manage multiple tasks and projects while working as a team.
  • Computer skills including proficiency in Microsoft Word, Excel and PowerPoint.
  • Excellent communication skills

Knowledge, skills, and abilities

  • Demonstrated expertise in working in multicultural and multinational teams from developing countries, including with ministries of health and/or other implementing partners;
  • Demonstrated expertise in providing targeted technical assistance on various topics for monitoring and evaluating public health programs
  • Demonstrated expertise in the development of databases and dashboards
  • Strong and demonstrable mastery of Power bi, Microsoft Access, and Microsoft Excel
  • Strong oral and written communication skills required
  • Proven ability to work effectively as a member of a dynamic team in a fast-paced and highly demanding environment.
