Job Description Summary
The Senior Associate will work with the firm’s Partners, and other key personnel to position to manage the caseload and deliver legal and tax advice as well as legal representation to clients on operational and transactional matters. The Senior Associate will also manage and oversee the activities of junior associates allocated to his/her supervision.
The candidates are expected to bring deep knowledge of Cameroon’s legal and regulatory system as it pertains to the business operations and have existing relations with regulatory authorities in the relevant areas.
Duties and Responsibilities;
The principal duties are summarized as follows;
Work with Managing Partner to design the Firm’s strategy and lead its implementation.
Provide top-notch legal and tax advice to the firm’s clients as need may arise on their various questions of law and business. In this light, the Corporate & Commercial Lawyer will work as Associate Manager and manage the team of junior Associates and interns and also work on the orientation, training and discipline of employees.
Work with the Business Development team to draft and present business proposals to prospective clients
Write legal briefs and articles to be used on the firm’s social media pages and other communication platforms
Maintain regular contacts with clients and counterparts to keep the firm’s relationships.
Drafting written submissions in diverse litigation, arbitration and other alternative dispute settlement mechanisms subject matters that may involve the Firm’s clients in Cameroon.
Represent clients effectively in court and Arbitration Tribunals.
Gather evidence and testimony from a range of witnesses for use in hearings.
Requirements
Applicants should:
Be a member of the Cameroon Bar and possess at least three (3) years of experience working in a law firm or as a free-lance legal services provider following their call to the Bar.
Have a Master’s degree in Business Law, Taxation, or any specialized law-related field from a Cameroonian University.
Sound knowledge of practical aspects of Business law and practices in Cameroon with a good understanding of the taxation and custom regimes.
Excellent written and verbal communications skills including strong presentation skills. The firm shall only select applicants who can communicate (read, write and speak) in French and English and have experience pleading cases in French.
Experience in Litigation, Arbitration, Mediation, and Negotiation with a confident and measured approach to winning cases.
Effective use of computer systems for generating professional reports, establishing legal Memos, and articles, scheduling meetings, and designing PowerPoint presentations.
High level of integrity and professional accountability.
Strong relationship-building skills and ability to work autonomously and as part of a team.
Good organizational skills and capacity to be detail-oriented.
