BACKGROUND AND ORGANIZATIONAL CONTEXT
Under the guidance and supervision of the Director of UNCHRD-CA and the Administration and Finance Officer, the Driver provides reliable and safe driving services to the staff of the UNCHRD-CA. He ensures highest standards of discretion and integrity, sense of responsibility, excellent knowledge of protocol and security issues. The Driver also demonstrates a client-oriented approach, courtesy, tact and ability to work with people of different national and cultural backgrounds.
Upon request of the supervisor, the Driver is required to provide driving services to the operations and program staff at UNCHRD, Consultants, Experts and UN staff on mission.
POSITION PURPOSE
Provision of reliable and secure driving services
Proper use of vehicle
Day-to-day maintenance of the assigned vehicle
Availability of documents/ supplies
KEY DUTIES AND ACCOUNTABILITIES
This position is located at the United Nations Center for Human Rights and Democracy in Central Africa, in Yaoundé, the incumbent will perform the following tasks:
Ensures provision of reliable and safe driving services
driving office vehicles for the transport of UNCHRD-CA staff, other high-ranking officials and visitors and delivery and collection of mails, documents and other items, and
meeting official personnel and visitors at the airport, including visa and customs formalities arrangement when required.
Ensures cost-savings through proper use of vehicle
Through accurate maintenance of daily vehicle logs, provision of inputs to preparation of the vehicle maintenance plans and reports.
Ensures proper day-to-day maintenance of the assigned vehicle
Through timely minor repairs, arrangements for major repairs, timely changes of oil, check of tires, brakes, car washing, etc.
Ensures availability of all the required documents/supplies
Including vehicle insurance, vehicle logs, office directory, and map of the city/country, first aid kit, and necessary spare parts in the assigned vehicle.
Ensures that all immediate actions required by rules and regulations are taken in case of involvement in accidents.
Ensure efficient mail delivery whenever needed
Assist the administration in office routine tasks
Assist in updating the fuel log
Assist un updating the vehicle fleet
Help in the replenishment of fuel for the Generator
Assist in the logistics aspects of the preparation of mission in the fields
Supervisory/Managerial Responsibilities: N/A
REQUIREMENTS:
Education
Hold a Brevet d’Etude of first school (BEPC) or equivalent (required);
Hold a valid minimum category “B” driving license (required);
Have a good knowledge of automobile mechanics (will be considered an asset).
Experience, Knowledge, and Skills
An experience of at least three (03) years with a reference institution (NGO, governmental institutions, international organizations) is required;
UN experience in similar position would be an asset;
Knowledge of Microsoft Office would be an asset;
Relevant certification in security would be an asset;
Fluency in the language of the duty station, knowledge of The UN language of the duty station.
