Purpose of role as Finance and Risk Officer, Neglected Tropical Diseases (NTDs)

The post-holder will have responsibility for the financial management of a variety of NTD programmes including DISSECT, a $2.8m NTD Research grant funded by the Global Institute for Disease Elimination (GLIDE). The post holder will also lead on the financial aspects of new proposals as assigned. The post holder will have a specific focus on supporting with NTD research programmes to ensure appropriate systems and processes are in place for financial monitoring and reporting

Financial Management for assigned programmes including DISSECT

Review new programme agreements and contracts, extracting financial requirements and setting up new programmes

Review and provide guidance on budgets and other financial submissions prepared by partners and Sightsavers country office staff

Support consolidation of budgets, forecasts, financial reports and other required submissions for donors within the required timescales

Liaise with internal teams to finalise downstream partner contracts. Monitor the financial aspects of assigned programmes, identifying, and escalating any concerns or potential risks

Attend donor meetings as required

Assist the team with audit and financial monitoring processes

Financial Support for NTD Research

Assist the NTD team to ensure that financial management systems and processes are defined and set up as standard on new research programmes

Create and maintain NTD Research Financial Management Guidelines which accommodate the above processes and systems, and which align as closely as possible with standard processes

Proposal Development

Work with Institutional Funding Lead, technical and in-country Sightsavers teams/partners to define proposal requirements and manage development of budgets, forecasts, and other required submissions to donors within the required timescales

Ensure Sightsavers financial processes and systems are understood and properly taken account of in NTD proposal bids

Knowledge, skills and experience for Finance and Risk Officer, NTD


Able to demonstrate finance and accountancy experience. Working towards an accountancy qualification an advantage

Experience of institutional donor or large-scale contract management would be an advantage although training can be provided

Experience of working with partners and colleagues with a wide range of financial capacity and providing them with guidance and support

Fluent written and spoken English

Previous work experience within an NGO

Strong numeracy

Awareness of overseas development context gained through working in the international development, the humanitarian sector and/or relevant sector preferable

Able to communicate effectively and professionally across a variety of cultures

Willingness to continuously develop skills and knowledge to remain current with donor funding developments


French language skills an advantage
