IHS Towers is expanding our global footprint and we are seeking an individual to join our Public Affairs team in Yaounde, Cameroon. The Senior Specialist, Public Affairs would execute and provide advisory support to the business on the government relations strategy. They would also relate with and manage government and other stakeholders to support the government relations strategy
Network and build sustainable relationships with relevant external governmental parties across the nation.
Establish and maintain effective corporate relationship with key stakeholders and decision makers in the government to effectively channel messaging around the company’s goals and objectives.
Build the company’s profile amongst government stakeholders to facilitate access and drive engagement as required.
Initiate regular meetings with key government stakeholders and give regular feedback to the business on new developments (e.g. bills and new policies across the legislative/ regulatory arena).
Manage the company’s policy advocacy and lobby program, including multi-level engagements/ networking with important positions in government, industry, and standardization bodies.
Develop and maintain a strong ethical relationship between the organization and the relevant institutions/ bodies with a view to ensure the long-term viability of the business.
Observe the business, political and regulatory environments closely and provide relevant advisory support to functions across the business.
Carry out research, provide detailed policy analysis, identify regional vulnerabilities, and recommend mitigations.
Coordinate action/ response plans to pertinent issues and lobby campaigns on identified issues.
Provide periodic intelligence reports, political audits and proactive feedback on emerging issues, developments, and trends.
Provide technical leadership/ advice in the formulation and development of the company’s Regulatory Affairs framework and policies/ guidelines while ensuring compliance.
Identify and prepare inputs/ submissions on all proposed policies, claims and other issues which are likely to impact legally, socially, and economically on company operations.
Collaborate with the Sustainability team on all Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) initiatives at government levels.
Create and manage a database of information on key government relations to support operations.
Monitor key legislative opportunities and risks for the company and alert internal stakeholders about them while identifying possible solutions to potential challenges
Represent the company at government, coalition, and other industry stakeholder meetings.
Engage directly with state and local government groups to strengthen the company’s relationships with key decision-makers.
Build awareness among internal stakeholders of key state policy decisions affecting the telecoms industry in the present and in the future.
Collaborate effectively across the Legal and Corporate affairs team to develop and implement initiatives aimed at improving the business environment for the company’s operations as well as enhance the company’s reputation.
Perform other tasks and duties as assigned by the Legal and Corporate affairs Director
Master’s degree in Humanities or social science.
2 years and more work experience in a corporate affairs position (preferably in telecoms environment) or reputable consulting firm.
Good drafting skills and ability to prepare memorandum and other letters within tight deadlines.
Good communications skills
Bilingual: English and French
Relationship building, collaboration and teamwork skills
Organizational awareness and influencing skills.
