The global project Forests4Future, commissioned by the Federal Ministry of Economic Cooperation and Development, aims to ensure that state and private actors contribute to national and international goals for the restoration of forest landscapes, poverty reduction and sustainable rural development and good governance in the forest sector. From 2022, the new country module Cameroon will start implementing activities. The aim of the module is to support Forest Landscape Restoration measures as a contribution to forest conservation and the restoration of forests and forest-rich landscapes. Together with partners, the module will comprise topics such as land use planning, co-management for sustainable forest management, restoration of degraded savannah and forests, income-generating measures for local producer and user groups, and adaptation to climate change.
Support and built capacity with the partner municipalities of Yoko and Nanga-Eboko and the devolved state agencies of the participating ministries in developing and executing a co-management model for the implementation of Forest Landscape Restoration and forest management measures
Support the partner municipalities of Yoko and Nanga-Eboko and the devolved state agencies of the participating ministries in establishing an inter-communal Landscape Forest restoration platform
Contribute to the organisational development of Village Forest management committees at village level in close coordination with the GIZ bilateral project Forest and Environment
Support the team leader in managing consulting services for the implementation of local land use planning and integrated Forest Landscape Restoration measures
Contribute to knowledge management, process lessons learned from Forest Landscape Restoration measures and disseminate results through the African Forest Landscape Restoration Initiative
Engage as a moderator and/ or mediator in order to conciliate different interest groups
University degree in forestry, sustainable natural resource management, land use planning, rural development or other relevant fields
Knowledge in Forest Landscape Restoration is an advantage
Experience in organisational development is an advantage
Work experience in international cooperation in sub-Saharan Africa in the areas of natural resource management, forest/ biodiversity or rural development
High intercultural competence and appropriate communication and teamwork skills
Experience with participatory approaches and the organisation of networks/ groups is highly desired
Willingness to live ruraly and work localy is prerequisite
Fluent in French and English; German skills are an asset
We are pleased to offer you a first impression on topics such as climate, shopping and services, the school situation and health care in Cameroon.
The village of Nanga-Eboko is located about 3 hours’ drive from the capital Yaoundé, with around 20.000 inhabitants. It has a tropical climate with average temperatures of about 30°C (day). Living conditions are basic, there is water (not drinkable) and electricity (with frequent power cuts). Basic health care and food providers are available. The location of Nanga-Eboko is not suitable for families with children. Yoko is located in the Centre region of Cameroon, at a 7-8 hours’ drive from Yaoundé, on challenging road conditions, it is a village of 17.000 inhabitants. Living conditions are basic, there is water (not drinkable) and 22 hours per day electricity. Basic health care and food providers are available.
The security situation requires heightened vigilance. Tailored security risk mitigation measures are in place for GIZ staff in country. GIZ staff must adhere to security measures at all times. Please also check the county-specific information provided by the German Federal Foreign Office. GIZ runs a professional security risk management system in the field of deployment. The working environment is subject to special restrictions on the freedom of movement. GIZ does not impose any restrictions on life partners and family members to move with you to the country of deployment. We kindly ask you to inform yourself which forms of relationships are legally and socially accepted in the country of deployment.
GIZ’s Development Service is looking forward to applications of candidates with a professional qualification and / or university degree and at least two years of professional experience. In addition you hold the German nationality or the nationality of a member state of the European Union.

Your work will begin with an onboarding and preparation phase that will give you initial insights into GIZ and lay the groundwork for your upcoming assignment, establishing new contacts and building up your network. Extensive check-ups and preventive measures (e.g. on appointment, before the outward journey, during the stay in a country of assignment, in an emergency) are provided to our staff and the family members accompanying them as a matter of course. As a development worker, you can use the project vehicle for trips to school or to visit a doctor or can receive a monthly lump-sum mobility allowance instead. The project vehicle can also be used for personal trips with your manager’s approval. As well as your basic living allowance, as a development worker you will also receive extensive additional benefits during your assignment (including a foreign service premium, family allowances, private group health insurance). To enable you to get ready for your assignment as a development worker and your outward journey, you will be given outward journey leave following your preparation time in Germany. We will cover a large portion of the childcare costs for dependent children under 14 who are accompanying you if your partner is not doing so and is not a development worker or integrated expert themselves. Most nursery and school fees are paid. We will reimburse you for your rental costs based on the rent index for your country as well as paying you an equipment and furnishing allowance on top. You and the members of your family accompanying you will be covered by our health and liability insurance, while your family members will also benefit from accident insurance. In countries in crisis, we operate a comprehensive risk management system for your protection, which minimises personal dangers and risks.

The Development Service of GIZ offers a comprehensive service package. It includes a specific technical and personal preparation.
